Nicklaus Fast was born in Göcklingen, Germany December 27, 1727.  He married Cadarina Dörner of Ilbesheim, Germany.   They came to American in 1750, settling in Frederick County, Maryland.   Nicklaus later relocated his family to what is now Green County, Pennsylvania.   He is buried in the Jacob's Lutheran Church cemetery, located west of Masontown, Pennsylvania.
The book "By Way of Rotterdam", 1952, by Wirt G. Faust, is a history of Nicklaus Fast after he arrived in Philadelphia, August 15, 1750, and a genealogy of his descendants up until about 1952.   However, at the time of its writing, not much was know about Nicklaus or Catharine's German history or families.  Many questions remained unanswered.  For example,  what village in Germany were they born?  Who were their German parents and relatives?  Why did they leave Germany?  What was their trip to American like?
"Nicklaus Fast of Göcklingen, Germany" is a book that will address these questions.  It will introduce the descendants of Nicklaus Fast to their German heritage by presenting information about Nicklaus Fast, his wife, and their German families before their arrival in Philadelphia.  It will also present information not included in "By Way of Rotterdam" about Nicklaus Fast and his family, as found in American records.
Research for the book was conducted by the author and Dr. Martin Jordan of Heidelberg, Germany.
"Nicklaus Fast of Göcklingen, Germany" addresses the additional issues of ...
  • How the Faust surname was introduced into the Fast family line.
  • Who was Nickel Faust?
  • The Fast Family crest.
  • Other Fast's, not related to the Nicklaus Fast line.
